Step back
in time and experience spectacular geology, intriguing ecology local culture experience and a
fascinating history of human endeavour.
The first human arrives, Bruncas, and coastal and mountain villages evolve. The
tribe gathers abundant seafood and hunting and builds canoes from the giant
trees of the forests.
Explorer Juan Vasquez de Coronado visits and is overawed by this land of
mountains and wild coastline. Then come the Coffee growers and the Banana planters
and the gold hunters. The settlers arrive who start to build a small
town called San Marcos de Tarrazu and attempt to clear the highland and lowland forests for farming and cattle ranching.
Sound like a very concise history of Costa Rica? It is, and it all
occurred in one region, the Quepos-Tarrazu valley where the Jurassic Trail is located. So deep is the
history of this valley that even its sheer thousand metre high moutain walls
stand dwarfed in comparison.
